Membership in the Calvin Community Symphony is open to any West Michigan musician with a desire to join a committed group of musicians in bringing classical music to life. Read on to learn more about the commitment and how to get involved.

The Calvin Community Symphony performs twice a year, with concerts in the spring and in the fall. Members commit to:
Learning the programmed music to a performance standard
Attending rehearsals, held weekly, on Tuesday nights from 7-9 PM at Calvin University, in the Covenant Fine Arts Center, room 135, missing no more than two rehearsals per concert
Attending dress rehearsals and concerts, held at Calvin University, in the Covenant Fine Arts Center Auditorium
FALL 2025 CONCERT: Saturday, November 1, 2:00 PM
SPRING 2026 CONCERT: Saturday, March 7, 2:00 PM

Admittance to the CCS is dependent upon an audition. All prospective members will audition for the Music Director, and sometimes the section principal for their respective instrument. Auditions typically take place in August for the fall concert and November/December for the spring concert. Auditions involve:
Performing 3 minutes of etudes, solos, and/or orchestral music you’ve prepared
Sight-reading excerpts from pieces in the upcoming program

The CCS always welcomes interest from community musicians. Openings fluctuate from concert to concert based on programming needs and musician availability. We are currently seeking:

Bass
